Perspective on the times

by Angel Stork

January is the time most of us re-inspire ourselves with fresh new goals and thoughts of expanding our business. The current world economic situation does not inspire confidence. How do you expand your business and income in a “shrinking economy?” Everywhere you look, every media report paints a grim economic picture worldwide. Many of my friends have noticed a moderate to sharp decline in business over the last 6 months or more.

Challenging times call for challenges to the old approaches to business and marketing. In spite of the economy and the apparent scarcity of work, jobs and income opportunities, some of us are determined to hold a positive vision of possibility for all of us. To me, a positive attitude is a practical solution to dealing with challenging times.

One way to hold for the positive is to not buy in to the appearance of a failed economy. For one thing, we simply cannot know all there is to know about why some things happen. And we cannot predict the outcome. How many times have you heard yourself or someone else reverse a perspective on a past event? “If I hadn’t lost that job (..left the relationship, totaled the car, mistakenly called that number, decided to go anyway…) I never would have ____!”

When we look at anything from a higher perspective, we begin to see the symbolic possibilities. The ‘train wrecks’ of life often open the door to a new and more exciting opportunity. Try shifting your own perspective, or anxiety about the economy, by breathing deeply while saying to your self, “Somehow, on a level that I cannot yet see, this is all perfect.” Leave the door open for insights to come through.
